Parliament, 17 May 19
Senator Sakanja, today in parliament asked the government to go slow on Kenyans. "Why is the government acting as if it is at war with its people?" He asked.
He also pointed out that," There is something fundamentally wrong". This he referred to the way the government is handling its work and the forceful rhetoric of threatening and overly demanding.
The government should not, "impose policies" onto the public. He went on to say that ,"Kenyans are sensible people.." and that the government should reason with Kenyans.
Huduma number, house levy are among the policies that the government has been 'forcing' Kenyans to take part into, "or else...."
Kenyans have been defying these policies or they have been completely reluctant not because the policies are necessarily wrong, but because of the,"the manner into which these things have been unpackaged to Kenyans."
Of recent, the government has been acting hardcore with Kenyans. Yesterday, Interior CS, Fred Matiangi forcefully, while ignoring the court order of not fixing a deadline onto Huduma number registration went on and issued a deadline of 18th of May; a date that was later flipped by the President to 25th of May,2019.
Education CS, Magoha has been dictating the way forward with the new education syllabus. The House Levy is still in court after the government insisted that Kenyans will fund the project directly from their paychecks.
If this rhetoric of force and dictate is directed towards war on graft, Kenyans would not show disinclination towards government projects.
It is the mistrust caused by the government's inability to aptly deal with public thieves to a satisfactory level, that has resulted to Kenyans having a don't-care attitude. This, the government has itself to blame!
